A bed and breakfast is very different from a hotel. Depending on what kind of experience you want from your accommodation, it should be easy to decide between a bed and breakfast and a hotel.
A hotel will be much larger than a bed and breakfast. This means there will be a lot more staff. They will probably not have time to do more than check you in and give you directions to your room. On the other hand, a bed and breakfast is often run by the owners and only a few staff. This means you will all get to know each other and they can give you personalized advice about what to do in the town you are visiting.
I have often overheard guests telling our staff that they feel so welcome and that the bed and breakfast is just like a home away from home. This is because guests are encouraged to help themselves to whatever they like – the kitchen, hot drinks, the laundry, etc. At a hotel, guests would be charged for these extra amenities.
So, if you like personalized service and a home-away-from-home atmosphere, then a bed and breakfast is what you should choose, rather than a hotel!
